Who's it for?: For moms with new babies 1 to 5 months of age at start of group
Details:
If you loved your Great Beginnings and/or Next Step Baby Group with your first child, you’ll find the same friendship and learning here, with the added camaraderie of a group of peers who also have an infant and an older child at home.
- We’ll start each week with infant massage and circle time songs, gentle bounces and fingerplays, while reviewing developmental information and ideas for play at home.
- Guided discussions focus on the issues women find most challenging when juggling life with a new baby and an older child, with an emphasis on sharing ideas and problem solving.
- Planned topics include: coping with two differing needs for meals, naps, bedtimes and outings, keeping each child safe and occupied, maternal guilt, sibling rivalry and ways to foster cooperation.
- Childcare, childproofing, dealing with illness, spending special time with your older child, traveling with two in tow and other relevant topics will be selected and discussed.
- This group is for mothers and infants (approx. 1 – 5 months). Please make care arrangements for older siblings.
- Also see Take Two, a developmental playgroup for toddlers and infants siblings to attend together, or call to ask about programs for your older child, where your baby is welcome as an observer.
Registration Information:
- One registration is for one mom and her baby or babies. No extra fee for twins.
- This is a New Moms Group specifically for moms and babies. Please make care arrangements for older siblings.
- Class length: 90 minutes each week for eight weeks.
*Our goal is to create an environment where each new parent feels welcomed, comfortable and safe in our Early Parenting groups. We recognize that there are many “right” ways to parent and we strive to offer a supportive environment where every new parent feels comfortable sharing the joys and challenges of this special time. Friendships begin on day one of the group and a true sense of trust, support and community develops over the course of the series. We've heard from mothers that six weeks was not quite long enough, and beginning in January 2012, our Great Beginnings, Second Time Moms and Next Step Baby Groups will be expanded to an eight-week format. |
